About Marissa Noble

Qualifications: BA (Hons), PGCE, NASENCO, PGCert SpLD, ATS, AMBDA

Marissa Noble is an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association and holds a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC)—meaning her assessments are formally recognised for exam access arrangements, disability allowances, and workplace accommodations. With extensive experience as a teacher and SENCO, she understands the practical realities of the classroom and how to create effective, realistic recommendations for both home and school environments.

Marissa is also trained in mindfulness and counselling approaches, offering a supportive and empathetic environment for children who may also be experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem or emotional challenges.

The Assessment Process

1. Initial Enquiry

Families are invited to speak with Marissa directly to discuss concerns and determine whether an assessment is the appropriate next step. If not, alternative support strategies can be offered.

2. Background Information

Once an assessment is agreed upon, families and teachers will be asked to provide background information through short forms. This enables a full, holistic view of the child’s strengths, challenges, and learning history.

3. Day of the Assessment

Assessments take place in a calm, child-friendly space at Foundations, Tonbridge and last approximately 3.5 hours. (This can be split across two sessions if preferred.) The assessment includes SASC-approved tests covering cognitive ability, reading, spelling, writing, phonological awareness, working memory and processing speed.

Breaks, snacks, and comfort activities are included to help children feel relaxed and supported throughout.

4. Comprehensive Report & Follow-Up

Within approximately five days, families receive a detailed written report (approx. 8,000 words), outlining diagnostic conclusions, strengths and challenges, and bespoke recommendations. A follow-up consultation is also included to discuss the findings and offer further guidance.

Evidence-Based Support Strategies

Each assessment report includes tailored strategies for supporting children both at home and in school.

Additionally, Marissa encourages fun, practical ways for families to support cognitive development, such as:
  • Listening and repeating song lyrics or TV dialogue
  • Word games and puzzles
  • “Spot the difference” and card sorting activities
  • Memory challenges and brain-training games
  • Strategic board games (e.g. Chess, Draughts)
  • Alphabet and spelling games during car journeys

These activities help build processing speed, memory, and confidence—while still feeling enjoyable for the child.

Understanding Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a spectrum of processing difficulties that primarily impact reading and spelling. It can affect children in different ways and to varying degrees, and it often overlaps with other conditions such as ADHD or dyscalculia.

According to the latest international definition:
  • Dyslexia affects literacy acquisition despite standard teaching
  • Key signs include difficulties with reading fluency and spelling
  • It can influence memory, language learning, maths, and more
  • Difficulties are often linked to phonological processing and working memory
  • It exists on a continuum, and support should be individualised

What our clients say

“You have been incredible and our daughter has learnt techniques that will help her if she has another difficult time in the future and helped her out of this dark period. She was struggling greatly from the lockdown effects and her anxiety and low mood was at a worrying level. We didn’t know where to turn and so glad we found you! Thank you also for the parenting support you offered to us as well to help us understand how our daughter was feeling and ways we can communicate at home.”

Parent's of Daughter

“Attending the parenting sessions helped me with understanding what my daughter is going through with her anxiety. I enjoyed learning more about the brain and also strategies that can help. It was nice to have a place I can discuss how hard its been at home for us.”

Mum of 13/yo

“Thank you for going above and beyond for our son and helping with his transition into secondary school. Since he established a supportive relationship with Dr Goldsmith where he felt safe and understood he asked if she could attend his transition meeting with the new school to discuss strategies that help with his anxiety and low mood. This meant a lot to us!”
